How to Prolong Aging - Naturally.

Updated: Jun 2, 2021

After the age 20, we produce 1% less collagen each year that passes, I know, bummer. So moving forward, Elastin, Collagen, and Hyaluronic acid are all terms that we are learning today to dive deep into understanding the aging process of our skin + how you can prolong youth, naturally.

Whether you are against fillers or not, it’s important to apply these methods to minimize the amount of injections you get and to get better results paired with botox. Having a consistent skincare routine will keep your skin healthier + more youthful, and, bonus, will save you money in the long run!

I may be biased but, for those of you that don’t know, Dr. Zen Obagi is considered one of the best Dermatologists and I incorporate + suggest many of his methods and ideas to my clients concerned with the aging process. If you want a more in depth knowledge of your skin, I highly recommend purchasing his book HERE.

Dr. Zen Obagi believes that overtime, our skin cells get lazy—our skin cells are grown accustomed to the use of moisturizers + serums doing all the work therefore, in order to keep the bounce and fitness of our skin, we need implement + stimulate our cellular production.

As we mature, our body and cellular production slows down, similar to how a metabolism slows down as you age. Meaning, it takes longer to increase the level of new skin cells to the surface of our skin and this can increase the production of fine lines, age spots, and sagging. The key to youth is increasing cell production and keeping our skin cells as healthy + happy as possible.

Just as your doctor advises you to take a multivitamin a day to stay healthy, you need to apply an antioxidant serum to your skin every day to stay healthy! Skincare + Healthy Food go hand in hand. A multi-vitamin is full of concentrated vitamins derived from fruits and veggies, much like a skincare antioxidant serum is concentrated from vitamins from fruits and veggies. I recommend using one every morning to prevent your skin from oxidative stress and UV damage. My personal favorite is the Kalos Bright Future | 20% Vitamin C Serum. This serum is a great dupe for the infamous SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic Acid Serum except for only a third of the price!

Elastin is a protein that forms the elasticity of our skin—when we start to lose elastin, our skin starts sagging and our wrinkles will deepen. To diminish this process Retinol's and retinoids will be your best friend because they help increase the elastin production over time. These are products that are best when prescribed to you by your dermatologist since they are made with powerful ingredients, however, there are some Retinol's and Retinoids that you can purchase online (I would suggest doing extensive research). Try to be patient when using Retinol's and Retinoids because it may take up to 6 weeks to see results because of our skins natural turnover cycle rate.

Collagen is from the family of proteins that are responsible for the structure of the skin. Think of this as the cushion to your mattress—over time the cushion deteriorates and the mattress starts to go flat. Exfoliation to the skin increases the collagens production, so being consistent with this application is crucial to maintaining the youthful bounce in your skin.

Here are some of my favorite Exfoliators:

Lastly, Hyaluronic acid (HA), otherwise known as nature's botox. HA is naturally found in the skin and instantly plumps the skin upon application. It holds 1000x its own molecular weight in water which plumps up fine lines + wrinkles. Our skin gradually dehydrates as we age and a lot of our fine lines and wrinkles are due to this dehydration in our skin. Using Hyaluronic Acid daily will aide in reducing fine lines and smoothing out wrinkles.

THIS is my personal favorite HA Serum!
